Dortmund star calls Tottenham goals ‘stupid’ and accuses referee of missing fouls

Borussia Dortmund lost their opening Champions League clash against Tottenham 3-1 at Wembley on Wednesday evening.

Turkish international star Nuri Sahin started for the Bundesliga giants.

Sahin was not pleased with the manner of defeat, calling two of Spurs goals ‘stupid’ to concede.

“It was a very intense match that will have been an interesting spectacle for the neutral. There were lots of chances at both ends. We conceded two stupid goals,” Sahin was quoted as saying on the official Borussia Dortmund website.

The 29-year-old was not pleased with the officiating either and felt that Dortmund’s goal was incorrectly ruled offside.

Sahin would have had an assist to his name had the Aubameyang goal stood.

The replays showed that the the Dortmund star was two yards onside.

“We performed well in the opening half. In the second half in particular, Tottenham looked to hit us on the break and they countered well. Our goal was disallowed and then they went 3-1 ahead – it was difficult after that,” he added.

The former Liverpool man also blamed the referee for not spotting a foul made on him ahead of Harry Kane making the score 2-1.

“I wanted to draw a foul there because the contact was there and I was sure that the referee would intervene. I don’t know why he didn’t,” he said.

Spurs ended up winning their first home game of the season in the process and moving into second place in Group H – on goal difference to Real Madrid.

Tottenham face APOEL in their next Champions League clash in Cyprus. Dortmund meanwhile have a tough test against Real Madrid.
