Fenerbahçe midfielder Emre Belözoğlu claims he did not swear at Beşiktaş manager Slaven Bilic during the Istanbul derby.

The Yellow Canaries beat Beşiktaş 2-0 at the Atatürk Olympic stadium but the game was overshadowed by the Turkish international telling Bilic to ‘F Off’ several times.

Belözoğlu however, has denied swearing and claims what he said is being taken out of context.

“What I said to Bilic is the Turkish for telling someone to get lost, that is what I said to him, I can’t believe what a big deal is being made of this,” Belözoğlu said.

“Bilic provoked me and I said a few words back, he knows full well that what I said was not offensive.

“Things are said in the heat of the moment but everybody makes up and calms down after the game.”

Belözoğlu faces the risk of a suspension if the authorities deem his comments towards Bilic to be offensive.

Beşiktaş player Gökhan Töre was sent off in the previous game against Erciyesspor and handed a three-match suspension for using exactly the same words allegedly towards manager Bülent Korkmaz.

Bilic highlighted the issue in his post-match press conference.

“It seems like there are players who can do what they want and say what they want on the pitch. And there are players apparently – unfortunately those players are my players – who cannot open their mouths and talk to other players and referees,” Bilic said.
