Emre Can describes non ‘eye-catching’ Liverpool teammate as being the ‘link man’

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has been in impressive of late as has his partner in crime Gini Wijnaldum.

The Germany international of Turkish origin praised his fellow Reds midfielder in a recent interview with the official Liverpool website.

Can described Wijnaldum as being a very important player for the team and that a lot of his hard work goes unnoticed as it may not be eye catching.

The 23-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com: “He’s a very, very important player for us, because he is the link man.

“He is doing it very well. He’s strong as well, a very strong guy. He can play, he is a very good footballer, but defensively he is working very well [too].

“He has done brilliantly for us so far this season. He has played very well. He is not ‘eye-catching’ sometimes but he is doing the dirty work for us. He is a very important player.”

Wijnaldum joined Liverpool on a £23.38 million (Transfermarkt) transfer from Newcastle United over the summer transfer window.

The Dutch star has gone onto establish himself as a first-team player in midfield and has five goals in addition to eight assists in all competitions this season.

Wijnaldum and Can have gelled to form a formidable midfield partnership of the past eight Premier League games following injury to captain Jordan Henderson.

The Reds are unbeaten in their last seven league games, Can and Wijnaldum have started in every one of the matches during the winning streak.
