Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes Emre Can has the intelligence to play central, out wide and in midfield.

“He moves the ball well and can move into midfield, and whether central or out wide you can see his intelligence,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

Rodgers also underlined that Can is strong enough to play Premier League football and that he is more than capable of playing in defence.

“Playing at the back he is strong, aggressive and fast,” he added.

“Emre can break through lines with his power and pace and has great composure.”

There were concerns that Can would struggle to cope with the physicalness of the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has however, adapted well to football in England and the Reds have not actually lost a game in which he has started as a defender.

Liverpool have recorded four victories in a row and find themselves in 5th place with 51 points in 28 games.

The Reds are just two points behind fourth placed Manchester United.

Can has one goal and one assist in 28 appearances in all competitions this season for Liverpool.
