Emre Can set to play first Liverpool game under Jurgen Klopp against Tottenham

Liverpool midfielder-come-defender is set to make his first appearance under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp against Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday 17 October at White Hart Lane.

Brendan Rodgers was of course sacked after the 1-1 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby before the international break.

Klopp was appointed as his replacement during the two-week interval and will take charge of his first league game against Spurs.

Emre Can was a regular first-choice starter for Rodgers and is expected to keep his place in the team under the command of Klopp.

Can was used primarily as a defender last season despite being a central midfielder and it remains to be seen how Klopp will decide to use the Germany international.

The 21-year-old has never played under the stewardship of Klopp before but he has played against side managed by the Germany manager during his time in the Bundesliga playing for Bayer Leverkusen.

Can is one of two ethnic Turkish players born in Germany playing for Liverpool – the other being Samed Yeşil.
