England U21 beat Germany U21 3-2 at the Riverside stadium in Middlesbrough in an international friendly.

The home side came from behind twice to eventually take the lead and win the game 3-2.

Liverpool midfielder come defender Emre Can was left out of the Germany U21 side in their 2-2 draw against Italy U21 but started against England.

Can started in central midfield for Germany just ahead of the centre-backs alongside captain Moritz Leitner.

The 21-year-old is expected to start for Liverpool against Arsenal following the international break.

Liverpool are currently 5th in the Premier League, five points behind fourth placed Manchester United.

Germany U21 and England U21 will play in the European Under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic, for which both sides have qualified.
