Euro Giants doing “all they can” to sign Liverpool star – Contract talks with Reds ongoing

Juventus chief Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed the Serie A giant’s pursuit of Liverpool star Emre Can.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside based club after failing to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

Can’s current contract with Liverpool expires in under five months which means he is free to discuss terms with Juve.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Marotta stated that the Serie A champions are doing “all they can” to sign Can from Liverpool.

“Emre Can is a player whose contract is running down, so it allows us to approach him for negotiations and that is the course we have taken,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“I can’t say if he could sign a new contract with Liverpool, but I can say we will try all we can to get the player. Obviously, we have to respect what the player wants.”

Meanwhile, German football expert Marc Behrenbeck has explained why Can will not leave Liverpool this month.

Behrenbeck told the SkySports podcast that Can will hold showdown talks with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in the near future.

“I know that he hasn’t signed any contract with Juve but on the other hand Juventus are crazy about him,” Behrenbeck told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast.

“They want him as their new midfielder but Emre and his agent told me they will be having talks with Klopp in January and February and he will not be signed in the next few weeks.”

Emre Can played a starring role during Liverpool’s win over Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend.

The German international is expected to be back in action when the Reds face relegation battlers Swansea City on Monday night.
