European giants continue pursuit of £20m Manchester United star

Fenerbahce are continuing their pursuit of Manchester United’s out-of-favour playmaker Juan Mata according to the daily Turkish newspaper Milliyet.

The report states the 28-year-old’s United future is in doubt following a dispute with manager Jose Mourinho. Mata was substituted after just 30 minutes on the field during United’s 2-1 Charity Shield win over the Premier League champions Leicester City. According to the BBC, Mata was taken off ‘because he was the smallest player.’

Meanwhile, TalkSport have reported that Mata is being valued at £20 million, a fee Fenerbahce are unlikely to be able to match.

The Spanish international scored 10 times and provided 11 assists last season but has a frosty relationship with recently appointed head coach Jose Mourinho who sold him to United while he was in charge of Chelsea in 2014.

The Yellow Canaries are in pursuit of a new attacking midfielder to replace the likes of Diego Ribas and Luis Nani who left over the transfer window.
