Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has revealed that he studies Arsenal star Mesut Özil to improve his game in an interview with the FA.
Barkley also stated that Yaya Toure is another player who has influenced what he does on the pitch.
“I’ve also been watching clips on Yaya Toure and Mesut Ozil. Ozil is so calm in possession and picks the right passes, which is something I’ve got to get a bit better at,” Barkley told the FA.
Özil averaged 63 passes at an 88 percent accuracy last season according to Whoscored. The World Cup winner also completed 649 passes in the final third in the Premier League this season.
The 26-year-old ended the season on a high but missed three months from October to the turn of the year due to a knee injury he sustained during a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.
The Arsenal star ended up winning two FA Cup trophies and lifting the World Cup in Brazil within the space of a year.
Özil will start for Germany in the Euro 2016 qualification game against Gibraltar today. The German national side are currently second in Group D one point behind Poland.
