Ex Man Utd star Van Persie distraught over latest injury blow

Fenerbahçe striker Robin van Persie revealed that he was distraught following his latest injury blow but underlined that he will return stronger.

Van Persie was quoted by Fanatik as saying: “I was prepared for the game, it is devastating to get injured and I was distraught at not being able to play against Shakhtar however, I will give 100 percent when I return.”

The 32-year-old striker missed the Champions League play-off stage second leg game against Shakhtar Donetsk.  Fenerbahçe lost the second leg 3-0 to bow out of the competition and joined the Europa League instead.

Van Persie is not however, expected to miss a month on the sidelines as initially thought. HaberTurk reported today that the Dutch star is expected to recover in time for the opening game of the Süper Lig season next week against Eskişehirspor.

The experienced striker had an ankle injury in all but one season (2007) and only managed a league campaign without significant time on the sidelines for Manchester United – he won the league title the same season.

Van Persie joined Fenerbahçe on £3.8 million move from United last month.
