Liverpool scraped past League 2 side Carlisle on penalties to make it through to the next stage of the Carling Cup.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers played a rotation side and also rotated a few positions most notably that of Emre Can who found himself back in defence.
Can is of course no stranger to playing in defence having been deployed predominantly as a defender in Rodgers back-three and as a right-back last season.
The 21-year-old was used as a right-back in the Germany national team when he made his debut last night.
Perhaps the highlight of an otherwise disappointing evening for Liverpool was Can’s penalty and subsequent celebration.
Can’s Panenka was renamed a ‘Canenka’ on social media as twitter reacted to the Liverpool youngsters penalty shoot out antics.
We took a look at how twitter reacted to Can’s penalty and overall performance.
There were a number of tweeters quick to try and claim naming rights over the Canenka.
@MatthewStanger please tell me someone has claimed "Canenka" on this one? If not put me down for it…

Then there were the fans who admired the passion he showed after scoring and the penalty itself.
The passion after scoring. I love Emre Can so much. https://t.co/IDmRgAMhoh

But there were also a few cynics quick to point out Liverpool were actually playing in a league side three-tiers lower than the Premier League.
Emre Can scores with a dink down the middle…
Completely forgetting they've just been taken to pens by a League 2 team
