Fenerbahce duo Mehmet Topal & Gökhan Gönül to miss Shakhtar clash

Fenerbahce’s Mehmet Topal and Gökhan Gönül are both expected to miss Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League qualification game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Istanbul Giants were held to a 0-0 draw at the Şükrü Saracoğlu and are preparing to travel to Ukraine in preparation for this weeks crucial encounter.

Gökhan Gönül is certain to miss the game due to injury while Mehmet Topal has failed a late fitness test and is expected to be left in Istanbul.

Şener Özbayraklı who missed the first leg due to a suspension is expected to start at right-back.

Left-back Hasan Ali Kaldırım had to fill in as a makeshift right-back lat week. Kaldırım was joined by centre-backs Simon Kjaer and Bruno Alves while Caner Erkin started on the left of the four-man defence.

Shakhtar got off the better start as expected considering they are already well into their league campaign. Fenerbahçe will take solace from not conceding at home but will be in for a tough game away to Shakhtar. The Yellow Canaries have not beat a Ukrainian side on the road in their last five tries.
