Fenerbahce in pole position to sign Arsenal forward Joel Campbell as Real Sociedad deny talks

Fenerbahçe are in pole position to sign Arsenal forward Joel Campbell following Real Sociedad denying being in talks with the Costa Rican international.

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay said to TV station Teledonosti when asked about Campbell: “He is an interesting player for La Real. However, at this time there is no negotiation regarding a transfer.

“We have to analyse the financial conditions that this transfer would pose.”

Fenerbahçe are on the verge of signing Campbell according to the Hürriyet newspaper.

Fenerbahçe have an ageing squad and are expected to bring in younger players over the summer transfer window.

The Istanbul giants could also face competition from rivals Galatasaray who have been keeping tabs on the Costa Rican international for the past two seasons.

The Costa Rica international received a number of offers in the summer but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wanted Campbell to stay at the North London based club.

The Arsenal forward was loaned out to Villarreal at a later stage in the season after failing to establish himself in the Arsenal first-team.

Campbell had one goal in 16 appearances for the La Liga outfit this season.
