Fenerbahce Sack Phillip Cocu After Shock Home Defeat Against Ankaragucu

Jeremain Lens

Philip Cocu has been fired from his role as Fenerbahce, the Super Lig club announced in a statement late Sunday.

The decision was announced following the Yellow Canaries heavy defeat against MKE Ankaragücü at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium.

The newly promoted Ankara based outfit beat Fenerbahce 3-1.

Cocu decided to leave PSV in the summer to take over at Fenerbahce but the appointment ended disastrously.

The Yellow-Navy Blues have had a dismal start to the season under the stewardship of Cocu, crashing out of the Champions League qualifiers and dropping down the domestic league standings to 15th place.

Fenerbahce could find themselves in the relegation zone should Rizespor win tomorrow.

The Istanbul giants have won just two games in the league this term and have the second-worst home form in the league picking up just five points at the Sukru Saracoglu.

Fenerbahce take on arch-rivals Galatasaray next in the Intercontinental Derby.

Cocu only won four out of sixteen official matches since taking charge.
