Fenerbahce sporting director confirms interest in Man Utd striker

Fenerbahçe sporting director Giulliano Terraneo has confirmed interest in Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.

Terraneo responded to Lig Tv reporters asking whether talks with Van Persie were ongoing at Fernandao’s press conference by saying: “Like I said before we want the best players in every position we are going to sign another forward but for a marriage both the man and the woman need to want each other.”

The Dutch star recently revealed that he could consider his options to get more playing time ahead of the 2016 European Championships.

Van Persie was quoted by the Mirror as saying: “When I signed for United, I knew these kinds of [reports] would appear. Next year is the European Championship. That tournament is going to play a big role in the choice I will make.

“I have to be in my best form. But most important is the wish of my wife and children.

“Whatever I do Bouchra, Shaqueel and Dina Layla are the highest of my priorities. They have to be happy.”

The 32-year-old striker was recently advised to consider parting ways with United according to former Netherlands international star Ronald De Boer.

The Dutch legend cited Galatasaray star Wesley Sneijder as an example Van Persie could follow.

De Boer wrote in a column for Voetbal International“Van Persie can learn from Sneijder’s example. Wesley flicked the switch a year before the World Cup in Brazil. For Wesley, the realisation came just in time — he has extended his career with them.

“I am convinced that Van Persie can do that too. Robin can still be of great value to the Oranje.”

Fenerbahçe finished last season as runners up and booked a place in the Champions League play-off stages.
