Fenerbahce suffer blow as Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho offers Spain star role in squad

Fenerbahce have suffered a blow in their hunt for a new midfield playmaker after Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho offered Juan Mata a role at Manchester United.

According to The Sun the Portuguese tactician told Mata that he can remain at United if he accepts a reduced role in the squad.

Mourinho offloaded Mata to United for £37m in January 2014 while he was manager of Chelsea because he believed Spaniard did not fit into his game plan.

Fenerbahce are on the look-out for a new midfield playmaker after they terminated Diego Ribas’ contract earlier this week.

Mata has frequently been linked with a loan move to Fenerbahce. The Istanbul giants signed both Robin van Persie and Luis Nani from the Manchester United over last summer’s transfer window.

The Spain international scored 10 times while providing 11 assists for United last season and has another two-years left on his contract.
