The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Steve McManaman has heaped praise on Emre Can following his midweek performance against Borussia Dortmund.

Can was initially ruled out for the rest of the season following an injury he sustained last month but was a surprise inclusion in the Red’s boss Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up earlier this week.

“I thought he [Emre Can] was excellent. We thought he was going to be out for six to eight weeks at one stage after injuring himself against Dortmund,” McManaman told BT Sport.

“The fact that he has come back and slotted in really really comfortably.

Can was rested for Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Watford FC in the Premier League on Sunday.

The 22-year-old has three assists and two goals in 47 appearances for Liverpool this season.

Liverpool take on Sevilla in the Europa League final against Sevilla on May 18 at St Jakob’s park in Switzerland.
