Galatasaray midfielder Felipe Melo has been ruled out for two months due to a hernia the club revealed.

The Lions released a statement confirming that Melo will undergo an operation on their official website.

The statement read: “Felipe Melo will undergo a hernia operation at the Liv Hospital today.”

Melo played 60 minutes in the Lions 3-2 win over Sivasspor on the weekend.

Galatasaray are currently in 1st place in the league with 48 points after 21 games.

The 30-year-old has become a key player in the Galatasaray team over recent years. Galatasaray have won 12 league games out of 15 in which Melo has played this season, losing just two and drawing once.

Melo joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal from Juventus worth £3 million last summer after playing the previous two seasons on loan at the Lions.

The Brazilian midfielder has scored one goal in 21 appearances for Galatasaray in all competitors this season.
