Presidential hopefuls Dursun Özbek and Turgay Kıran have both put their support behind the current head coach.

Former Galatasaray president Ünal Aysal was also expected to run for election but recently revealed that he will not be taking part in the race.

Hamzaoğlu replaced former Italian national team manager Cesare Prandelli as Galatasaray head coach in November.

The Italian manager’s contract was terminated following a string of heavy defeats in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

Hamzaoğlu was previously a Galatasaray player and coached Akhisar before taking over the Lions.

Galatasaray are currently first in the league, two points ahead of second placed Fenerbahçe and three ahead of third placed Beşiktaş.

The Lions will take on Trabzonspor next in the Süper Lig after the one week suspension is over.

The league is currently postponed for a week due to the armed attack on the Fenerbahçe team bus last week.
