Gary Lineker suggests Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil should face a retrospective ban

Former Tottenham and Leicester City striker Gary Lineker has suggested that Mesut Ozil should face a retrospective ban for disrespecting the referee during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Norwich City.

The BBC Match of the Day presenter likened the incident which saw Leicester striker Jamie Vardy receive a ban after failing to leave the pitch with grace after his sending off.

Ozil has recorded 18 assists and with two games to go still has a chance of equalling the Premier League record of 20 set by Thierry Henry.

The Germany international is Arsenal’s most expensive signing however, following a disappointing end to the season the 27-year-old is seeking assurances that the squad will be strengthened in the summer.

The Gunners take on Manchester City next weekend in the Premier League as they look to secure a third place finish.
