Germany international in 'serious talks' with Barcelona

The former Besiktas striker Mario Gomez is in talks with the La Liga champions Barcelona according toBesiktas spokesman Metin Albayrak.

The Germany international was Besiktas’ top scorer last season and played a major role in their title winning campaign.

“Our fans are feel hopeful about Mario Gomez returning,” Albayrak told Dogan News Agency (via Goal).

“We’re monitoring his situation closely but we know that he is in serious talks with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. Obviously he is difficult for us.”

Gomez put an end to his chapter at Besiktas citing the political instability in the country as his reason behind the decision.

“The reason for this is completely down to the political situation,” the striker said on his Facebook page.

“There are no sporting or any other reasons that have made me make this decision. It is purely down to the terrible events that happened in the last few days.”

Gomez was expected to return to Besiktas after a successful one-year loan at the club. The powerful striker won the league title and ended the season as the top scorer.

The 31-year-old spent last season on loan and was a huge hit after scoring 26 goals in 32 Turkish Super Lig games for the Black Eagles
