Hamza Hamzaoğlu takes charge of first game against Eskisehirspor

Newly appointed Galatasaray manager Hamza Hamzaoğlu will lead his side out for the first time tonight in the the Turkish Cup.

Galatasaray take on Eskisehirspor at the Turk Telekom Arena tonight at 17:30 (GMT).

Tonights clash will be Hamzaoğlu’s 200. game in management. The 44-year-old manager played at Galatasaray as a footballer from 1991-1995.

The 44-year-old coach becomes the second manager born in Greece to takeover at Galatasaray.

Hamzaoğlu was born in Komitini, Greece home to the countries Turkish community. The Turkish name for the city is Gümülcine.

The former Akhisar manager moved to Turkey with his family aged seven and settled in the city of Izmir.

Hamzaoğlu has won 84, drawn 48 and lost 67 of the 199 games he has managed.

Galatasaray’s new manager led Akhisar into the Süper Lig from the PTT 1. Lig and later joined the Turkish national team as Fatih Terim’s assistant coach.
