“He does not want to be at the club” – Ex-Arsenal star Martin Keown rips into Mesut Ozil yet again as he doubles down on criticism

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has taken yet another shot at Gunners playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Keown – along with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard – ripped int Ozil during his post-match analysis on BT Sport on Saturday afternoon.

Two days on the former England international has doubled down on his criticism of Ozil. During his column in the Daily Mail, Keown has branded the World Cup winning midfielder as the ‘most frustrating’ player ever to wear an Arsenal shirt.

Ozil played the full 90 minutes during Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Stoke City on Saturday.

“Mesut Ozil is the most frustrating player I’ve seen wear an Arsenal shirt,” Keown stated.

“He is an icing-on-the-cake player — someone who is happy to create the chances to win matches but will not scrap and fight for the team.”

“Ozil is an expensive luxury — but if he is not going to work hard out of possession then he must do so when he has the ball.

“Why isn’t he running at players with menace and asking questions of them? It’s not enough just to be out there — he needs to be controlling games.”

Keown went onto state: “Ozil has not yet signed a contract so we must assume he does not want to be at the club.

“But if he is just trying to see out his time at Arsenal, that is going to be a long year for all involved. He must forget about himself, give his all for the fans and the club and then go gracefully.”

Ozil’s long-term future at Arsenal is growing increasingly uncertain. The 28-year-old has under 12-months remaining on his current deal and is yet to agree upon an extension.

Alexis Sanchez, Oxlade Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere will also be out-of-contract next summer.

Arsenal face a tough away fixture against Liverpool at Anfield next weekend as they look to return to winning ways.
