“He’s not good enough really” – Ex-Newcastle striker slams Liverpool duo Emre Can & Firminho

Former Newcastle United striker Micky Quinn has slammed Roberto Firminho and Emre Can for their performances during Liverpool’s opening two games of the season.

The pair were included in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up for Liverpool’s games against Watford FC and Hoffenheim.

The Reds were held to a 3-3 draw at Watford and followed that up with a 2-1 win over Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-off first leg.

Quinn stated that Emre Can simply isn’t good enough to play for Liverpool in the long-term. The TalkSport presenter also criticised Liverpool’s defensive work on set-pieces.

“This zonal marking, it does my head in,”  Quinn told Talksport.

“There’s no moral fibre in that defence, moral fibre where there’s a corner coming over, you’ve got your player.

“This goes, not just to defenders, Firmino is a serial offender at this.

“Just let’s a player get the first run and a free header inside the 18-yard box from a set piece. Not good enough.

“Can’s another one, to me, he’s not good enough really, long term.

“Lovren is an absolute liability, he gave one penalty away, could have given another two away last night.

“He played them onside for the Hoffenheim goal as well – liability.”

It would seem that like likes of Seire A giants Juventus disagree with Quinn’s point of view. The UEFA Champions League finalists have been closely linked with a move for Emre Can in recent weeks.
