Emre Can has stated that he has the drive to go forward with the ball regardless of what position he plays on the pitch.

The 21-year-old has been likened to a Rolls Royce for his powerful runs up the field by his manager Brendan Rodgers.

“I always have this kind of drive to take me forward offensively no matter which position I’m playing,” Emre Can told the Liverpool Echo.

“The fact that I’m playing in the back three at the moment means there is no player behind me so I have the whole game ahead of me so if there is space I can drive forward into it.”

The 21-year-old has been played as a defender for much of the season despite joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen as a central midfielder.

Liverpool have only lost one Premier League game in which Can has started in defence this season.
