“I am sorry for us” – Man United boss Jose Mourinho reveals bizarre reason why Man City won

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was in a fighting mood during his interviews with the press after the weekend clash.

The Red Devils suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of their biter rivals on Sunday leaving them 11 points behind the league leaders.

The first half ended 1-1 following goals from David Silva and Marcus Rashford.

The balance of the game appeared to change when Pep Guardiola brought Ilkay Gundogan on in the second half. The switch up lead to City asserting their dominance in midfield which lead to Nicolas Otamendi’s winner.

However, according to Mourinho, City’s win was all down to just luck.

The experienced manager also stated that his side were denied a clear penalty in the first-half.

“I think they are a very good team, I think they are lucky, I think [they] have all the decisions in their favour, probably yes,” Mourinho told SkySports after the game.

“But Tuesday is another day in our Premier League, and I am sure all of us, everyone is going to fight for points and try to reduce the distance, which is the normal thing in the championship but of course the advantage is a very good one.”

“Clear penalty. I am sorry for us, sorry for Michael [Oliver], I think he had a good performance, but it’s a clear penalty.

“The ref made a mistake, which can happen. Last season we had a similar situation here against City, winning 2-1 and Mr Clattenburg didn’t see the penalty; Claudio Bravo on Wayne Rooney.

“It is a clear penalty. I am sorry for Michael Oliver because I think he had a good performance.”

United are back in action on Wednesday night when they face Bournemouth at Old Trafford. City meanwhile travel to Wales to take on Swansea City.
