'I need a bigger ego to win Ballon d'Or' says Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Mesut Özil has stated he needs to develop a bigger ego if he is to win the Ballon d’or.

The Arsenal playmaker says that he needs to be both selfish and ruthless in front of goal to stand a chance of winning.

“I have to become more dangerous in front of the goal,” he said when asked about winning the individual accolade.

“I was injured for long spells last season, and scored only five in 32 competitive games. I want to improve this. To achieve it, I have to be a bit more egotistical.”

Özil is expected to feature in Germany’s Euro 2016 qualification encounter with Poland this week despite suffering a knee injury which kept him out of Arsenal’s clash with newcastle.

The 26-year-old is also understood to be available for Germany’s clash with Scotland next week. Germany sit in second place in Group D with 13 points in six games.

The World Cup winner had started in all of Arsenal’s games this season until picking up his injury. Özil joins Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky on the sidelines for Arsenal.

Arsenal are without a win at the Emirates but will be hoping to turn around their fortunes at home when they take on host Stoke City on 12 September after the international break.
