“I’m going to go for a home win” – Mark Lawrenson makes prediction for Arsenal v Chelsea clash

Former Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson has revealed his prediction for tonight’s Arsenal v Chelsea clash in the Premier League.

The encounter will take place at the Emirates stadium while kick-off is scheduled for 19:45 (GMT).

Arsene Wenger’s side will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 1-1 draw with West Brom over the weekend. The Gunners struggled to break down the Baggies defence in Mesut Ozil’s absence.

Unfortunately for Wenger, the 29-year-old playmaker is a doubt once again going into tonight’s clash due to a knee injury.

According to Lawrenson, Arsenal are favourites going into tonight’s encounter due to their strong home form. The Gunners have registered eight wins in the games at the Emirates this season.

Lawro went onto predict a 2-1 victory for the north London based club.

“This was the game last season which turned around Chelsea’s season. Antonio Conte’s side were beaten 3-0 at Emirates Stadium, a result that left them eighth and eight points off then leaders Manchester City,” Lawro stated in his BBC article.

“It prompted Conte to switch to a three-man defence and the Blues embarked on 13-match winning run that was the basis of their title success.

“Arsenal are very good at home, winning eight of their 10 league games there, and I’m going to go for a home win. Unlike last season, when they were purring, Chelsea still have the odd hiccup as we have seen in their defeats at West Ham and Crystal Palace.”

Chelsea can overtake Manchester United and move up into second place with a victory tonight. The Blues registered a 5-0 win over Stoke City in their last league games.
