Karius will start for Liverpool in Champions League, star midfielder makes 21-man squad ahead of clash

Liverpool take on NK Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday for Match Day 3.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Loris Karius will start ahead of Simon Mignolet in goal.

“Loris will start. If nothing happens from here on the way to Maribor, then Loris will start,” said Klopp as Liverpool’s 21-man squad flew to Slovenia.

Karious has been designated Champions League goalkeeper by Klopp but his performances so far have been questionable to say the least.

The game will be the second of three in the space of eight days for Liverpool, sandwiched between the United clash and next Sunday’s game against Spurs.

It remains to be seen whether Klopp will rotate his side on Tuesday.

“We will see about rotation. I don’t think it is necessary, but maybe one, two, three or four changes [will be made]. We will see,” he added.

Klopp has included midfielder of Turkish origin Emre Can in the travelling squad as well as star players Firminho, Coutinho and Salah.

Can has a total of two goals and two assists in 10 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season.

Liverpool are currently second in their group having drawn their first two games, Maribor meanwhile are last on one point.
