Beşiktaş right-back Serdar Kurtuluş had more reason than most his teammates to be delighted with eliminating Liverpool from the Europa League Round of 32.

Kurtuluş was the only member of the Beşiktaş team who played in the humiliating 8-0 record loss against Liverpool in the 2007-08 Champions League group stages.

“It was a really important game for us,” Kurtuluş told the official UEFA website.

“We got the first goal by playing really well and we could have finished the job in 90 minutes. We had a missed chance in the last minute but that was how it was meant to be. We did it the hard way but what mattered is that we won. Thank God – we are incredibly happy.”

Kurtuluş also helped Beşiktaş in the final third, he completed three successful dribbles and 85 passes at 78 percent accuracy.

Whoscored awarded the 27-year-old a 7.93 rating for his performance.

Beşiktaş will face Club Brugge of Belgium in the Europa League Last 16.

The Black Eagles will return to the title race on the weekend and take on last placed Balıkesirspor in the league.
