Liverpool vs Everton Emre Can overhead kick

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers underlined that Emre Can has great footballing intelligence and has no trouble adapting to different positions as a result.

Rodgers signed Can as a central midfielder but played his as a defender in his back-three and as a right-back for most of last season.

Despite not being a defender Can was one of the Reds stand out players last season and adapted well to his new role other in the 6-1 defeat to Stoke City.

“Whatever role he’s asked to play he has this inbuilt brain for football that allows him to adjust and adapt,” Rodgers was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

“But when I met him I asked him his preferred position, where he sees himself playing and that was as a controlling midfield player and that’s where I’ve always felt he’ll be an outstanding talent for us.”

Can is however, expected to feature in his preferred midfield role this season following the departure of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard who joined the MLS over the summer.

The 21-year-old is expected to feature in midfield for the Reds today against recently promoted Bournemouth at Anfield.
