Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Beşiktaş following the Europa League Round of 32 second-leg clash.

Beşiktaş progressed to the Last 16 of the competition following their 5-4 win on penalties against Liverpool at the Atatürk Olympic stadium.

“It was a good game, there wasn’t a great deal in the game; the pitch was very difficult for both teams. Congratulations to Besiktas, they have gone through,” Rodgers was quoted as saying on the official Liverpool website.

Rodgers underlined that his side must forget about the loss and focus on the Premier League and FA Cup now.

“We now just have to concentrate on our league campaign that is starting to go well for us. Our objective this season was to win a cup. It’s not going to be in this competition, but we have an excellent opportunity in [the FA Cup],” he added.

Liverpool will take on second placed Manchester City in the Premier League on the weekend. The Reds could move into the top four with a win over the Citizens.

Beşiktaş maintained their unbeaten home record against English opposition in European competition following the win against Liverpool.

The Black Eagles will now face Club Brugge in the next stage of the tournament in March.

The Turkish giants are currently in second place in the Süper Lig just one point behind league leaders Galatasaray.
