Liverpool FC fan Brian Cowley will be hoping to raise £10,000 for Alder Hey children’s hospital by cycling from Anfield to Istanbul according to the Echo.
Cowley will cycle 2,082 miles from Anfield in Liverpool to Istanbul to mark the 10th anniversary of the Reds Champions League final victory at the Atatürk Olympic stadium.
The Reds came from behind against AC Milan to record one of the greatest Champions League final comebacks to lift the trophy in Istanbul in 2005.
Liverpool returned to the Atatürk Olympic stadium in the Europa League this season.
The Reds lost the Round of 32 second leg against Beşiktaş on penalties and were subsequently knocked out of the competition.
Cowley will be raising money for the Alder Hey children’s hospital in West Derby, after his daughter, Mia, was recently treated there.
The fundraising cyclist was quoted as saying: “I am doing this after my daughter was admitted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the treatment was simply amazing. I can’t see how other parents cope with their kids being so ill.
“I would like to give something back and help to help the children and the incredible staff at Alder Hey.”
