Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has returned to Melwood for pre-season training according to the official club website.

The Reds took part in the first training session this summer which included all the team following the arrival of players who had been on the pre-season far-east Asia tour.

Liverpool played games in Thailand, Australia and Malaysia over the summer but will focus on final preparations for the league campaign at Melwood.

The 21-year-old midfielder-come-defender has had a busy summer and featured in the U21 European Championships with Germany. Can’s crashed out of the competition following a 5-0 defeat against Portugal in the semi-finals.

Can will be hoping to move into central midfield this season after spending the last league campaign as a makeshift defender in Rodgers back-three and to a lesser extent a right-back.

The young midfielder recently told the Anfield Wrap: “Of course, we talked about this. The manager has said he sees me as a midfielder, and that’s where I want to play in the near future.”
