Liverpool news: Reason why Reds have been unable to strike deal with midfield ace, negotiations on-going for over 12-month

Germany international midfielder Emre Can’s Liverpool future continues to be a cause for concern.

The Reds signed Can from Bayer Leverkusen by activating his £9.75 million release clause back in 2015.

However, Liverpool could end up losing their star asset for free this summer unless a new deal can be agreed.

According to Goal, the reason behind the contract dispute is over the inclusion of a release clause. Can would like a clause included in his new deal while Liverpool are opposed to any of their players having such a clause in their contracts.

Per the source, Liverpool have been in contract negotiations with Can for over 12 months. Goal go onto state that Can’s representatives have requested that their client be placed in the highest bracket of earners at the club.

Unless Liverpool can iron out a deal by December, the player will be free to discuss terms with any club in Europe.
