Liverpool offer condolences to Turkey following Ankara bombing

Liverpool Football Club have offered their condolences to Turkey following the deadly bombing attack in Istanbul.

Ninety-seven people died and over 200 were injured in the terrorist attack that rocked the capital.

Liverpool released a statement on their Facebook page offereing Turkey condolences: “Liverpool FC offers condolences to the families of those who passed away, suffered injuries in the tragic attack in Ankara.”

The Reds have a large following in Turkey and the condolence message was praised aross the Turkish press.

Liverpool have two players of Turkish origin in Emre Can and Samed Yeşil. Both players were born in Germany but are ethnic Turks with family in Turkey.

Can plays for the Germany national team but Yeşil has the option to represent either his country of birth of Turkey at senior international level.

Yeşil has played for Germany at youth level but can switch allegiances. Turkish national team star Oğuzhan Özyakup captained the Netherlands at U21 level but now plays for the Crescent-Stars.

Liverpool take on Tottenham next in the Premier League with Jurgen Klopp as their new manager.
