Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet revealed that the whole team was devastated following their Europa League exit.

Beşiktaş knocked Liverpool out of the competition after beating the Reds 5-4 on penalties.

“Everyone is devastated to go out, especially like that at the end of 120 minutes,” Mignolet told the official Liverpool website.

“Having put so much effort into the game, it’s a real disappointment to go out.”

Mignolet revealed that Liverpool practice penalties every week in training which made the defeat even more disappointing.

“We defended well for 120 minutes. We practice penalties every week in training but a shootout is always a lottery and it’s so disappointing to go out,” he added.

Dejan Lovren missed the Reds only penalty of the even but it proved to be costly as Beşiktaş converted all their spot kicks on the night.

The penalty shoot out was the Black Eagles first since the 2011 Turkish Cup final victory against IBB.

Beşiktaş will take on Belgium outfit Club Brugge in the Last 16 of the competition in March next.
