Liverpool receive injury boost as star midfielder makes full recovery

Liverpool received bad news from the Germany training camp yesterday after it emerged that Emre Can picked up a knock during training.

Can was rumoured to be out of the Confederations Cup clash against Cameroon and the Reds faced an uncertain wait over the severity of his injury.

Explaining Can’s problem, Joachim Low told a press conference: “During training, Emre Can has sustained a minor injury.

“He bent over on the pitch. His boot got stuck in the grass. We will have to see how he feels because he had to break off training.”

The midfielder of Turkish origin did however, manage to start against Cameroon.

Germany beat the African Cup of Nations champions 3-1 with Can playing a starring role.

The 23-year-old did look a bit sluggish at times which could be down to the blow he suffered in training.

Can does not seem to have sustained any serious damage and should be able to continue in the tournament and be match fit on his return to Liverpool pre-season training.

The central-midfielder could be at the Confederations Cup until July 2 which would mean he’d miss the start of the pre-season.

Germany have reached the semi-final stage of the tournament and would lift the trophy for the first time if they manage to go all the way.

Can is one of three players of Turkish origin at the tournament – the others being Kerem Demirbay of Germany and Aziz Behich of Australia.
