Liverpool remain in race for Besiktas target Mario Gomez

Liverpool remain in the race to sign Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez according to the Express.

The report claims that Liverpool and Beşiktaş are the front runners to sign the 30-year-old striker.

The Germany international still has a year left on his contract and earns €5.5 million per-season at Fiorentina.

Beşiktaş had reportedly agreed terms with Gomez but his agent Uli Ferber has revealed that a deal is not in place.

Ferber did however, confirm that talks with Beşiktaş are ongoing but also confirmed that there are negotiations with other clubs.

Ferber told German magazine Sport1: “There are negotiations going on with several different clubs, including Besiktas.

“But nothing has been signed or agreed on yet. Nothing is decided.”

Fiorentina manager Paulo Sousa has however, revealed that he could be willing to give Gomez another chance.

“I always want to see Fiorentina win, even though the players were tired from the work we have done [in training],” Sousa was quoted as saying by ESPN.

“Gomez will soon start to score again. We just have to give him the confidence he needs to express himself at the highest level.”

Beşiktaş are in the market for a new striker after selling Demba Ba to Chinese giants Shanghai Shenhua for €14 million last month.
