Liverpool star Emre Can desperate to avoid defeat at Wembley

Liverpool’s star midfielder Emre Can has stated that he wants to avoid defeat at Wembley today against Manchester City in the League Cup final.

Can was in the side which lost to Aston Villa at Wembley last season after throwing away a first-half lead. The defeat left a bitter taste for the Germany international and he intends to make amends second time around.

The 22-year-old won the German Supercup final against Borussia Dortmund while at Bayern Munich back in 2012.

“I lost the last game at Wembley and it was not a good feeling and hopefully that will change,” Can was quoted as saying by Eurosport.

“When we lost that game last season it makes the team stronger and you stronger because you don’t want to feel the same.

“You train every day, every session, harder to win trophies and when you lose it makes no sense.

“That is what we don’t want in the final.”

Can is expected to be deployed in central midfield alongside Milner and club captain Jordan Henderson today. The Germany international has provided one assist and scored two goals in 34 appearances for Liverpool this season.

If the Red’s win on Sunday it will be their first piece of silverware since they won the League cup back in 2012.
