Liverpool star dropped as Germany suffer shock defeat

Emre Can

Germany suffered a shock 3-1 defeat against Slovakia at the WWK Arena in today’s international friendly.

Joachim Low did rotate his usual side and left out key players such as Arsenal star Mesut Ozil who did not even get included in the match-da squad.

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can was included in the match-day team but started on the bench. Can failed to make an appearance over the course of the 90 minutes.

Can was not injured so it was surprising not to see the Reds star feature but he will join Germany in France this summer.

The 22-year-old has featured predominantly as a full-back for Germany under the stewardship of Joachim Low and it remains to be seen whether he will be played as a midfielder in Euro 2016.

Besiktas star Mario Gomez did start for Germany and scored his sides only goal of the game giving his side the lead from the penalty spot on 13 minutes.

Gomez had a terrific seasons with Besiktas this season scoring 28 goals for the Turkish league champions.

The Germany international finished the league season as the Black Eagles highest ever foreign goal scorer and played a key role in his side winning the league title.

Galatasaray striker Lukas Podolski was included in the squad but left out of the match-day team.
