Germany won the first Group E game against Ukraine 2-0 but Can did not get to feature over the course of the 90 minutes.

Can is not expected to feature heavily over Euro 2016 and if he does it will be as a defender.

Germany boss Joachim Low called Can up as a defender and has played him predominantly as a full-back despite being a central midfielder for Liverpool.

Can did however, play as a defender under the stewardship of former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers so he does have experience in the position.

Germany are one of the favourites in Euro 2016 after winning the World Cup two years ago.

Can is one of eight Germany born ethnic Turks in the tournament.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is the other Germany international of Turkish origin while Turkey has six Germany born players.
