Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has spoken about the pride of wearing the number 23 jersey at the Merseyside club.

Jamie Carragher wore the no.23 shirt before retiring in 2013 after 17 seasons at Liverpool.

“I know the legend of No.23 here'” Can was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“Having that number means a lot to me as Jamie Carragher had it before me and he’s a Liverpool legend.

“I heard that his son has my name on the back of his No.23 shirt.”

Can played the full 90 minutes during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of their rivals Manchester United in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old played in midfield once again alongside Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson. The Germany international has been a constant feature in the Red’s starting line-up since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool dropped down to ninth place following todays defeat while united moved up into fifth place, two points behind Tottenham.
