Liverpool team news: Klopp facing midfield crisis ahead of Crystal Palace clash, Emre Can is available

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp heads into the Crystal Palace clash over the weekend with a number of injury concerns.

Klopp is facing a headache in midfield with captain Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana out.

The Reds have coped well with both players injuries and are unbeaten in their last seven games which have seen Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum start.

Klopp could however, be without Lucas Leiva which would leave him short of options in th middle.

The Germany manager is also missing players on the defensive end with Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan also a doubt.

Klopp was quoted by the official Liverpool website as saying: “Unfortunately, not too positive.

“[We have] a few little things from the last game, it doesn’t make it much easier. Little bit muscle problems, Joel Matip, Lucas Leiva [and] still a problem with Ragnar Klavan.

“[Klavan] was a very, very small medial ligament, but could be also really not enough time until Crystal Palace.”

With the injuries in midfield Germany international of Turkish origin Can and Wijnaldum are almost certain to start.

Nineteen-year-old Joe Gomez could also end up being drafted in.

“It’s not 100 per cent that Lucas cannot play, it’s not 100 per cent that Joel cannot play, it’s not 100 per cent that Ragnar cannot play,” Klopp added.

“But they are not in training in the moment, so that’s not too cool.

“Joe Gomez played on Monday, U23s, again [he] did well, made big steps in the last few weeks, so maybe we have to try this pair.

“We will see, I don’t know in the moment.”

Crystal Palace will be missing a key defender themselves, as Mamadou Sakho who is on loan from Liverpool will be ineligible to face his parent club.
