Gerrard left the Reds for the MLS after spending his entire career at the club. The Liverpool legend was widely regarded as one of the greatest players the club has ever seen.

Can does play a similar position to Gerrard although Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers did use him as a central defender in a back-three and as a right-back last season.

The 21-year-old has however, been playing as a central midfielder for the Germany U21 side and is expected to play a similar role for the Reds after the summer break.

Can scored in the opening U21 Euro Championship game for Germany U21s against Serbia U21s but it was not enough to win the game which ended in a 1-1 draw.
