Liverpool’s Emre Can: ‘I wouldn’t really call myself a right-back’
Liverpool’s in-form player Emre Can has stated that while his perferd position isnt in defence, he hasn’t had a problem adjusting to the position.
Can has started in defence in Liverpool’s last ten league games and has impressed, both with his defensive ability and confidence on the ball.
“I wouldn’t really call myself a right-back. It is demanded that I have an attacking approach, and also get involved in the build-up play,” Can told Sport Bild.
“Indeed, the position was a surprise to me at first. I had never played it before, and feel more at home in midfield. But during my youth I also played at centre-back. Maybe that’s why adjusting wasn’t that difficult.”
Liverpool have not lost a Premier League game in which Can has started in defence. The 21-year-old was signed from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer as a central midfielder. Rodgers has however, used Can primarily as a defender this season.
Can has one goal and one assist in 28 appearances in all competitions this season for Liverpool.
