Liverpool’s Toure – ‘The atmosphere here was the best I ever played in’ [divider]
Liverpool defender Kolo Toure revealed that the atmosphere at the Europa League Round of 32 second-leg game against Beşiktaş at the Atatürk Olympic was the best he has ever played in.
“The atmosphere here was unbelievable – I think it was the best I ever played in. Honestly,” Toure told the official UEFA website.
The game was played in front of a record crowd of 63,324 according to the official UEFA website.
Beşiktaş beat Liverpool at the same stadium the Reds defeated AC Milan on penalties in the 2005 Champions League final.
Liverpool won the first leg at Anfield 1-0 thanks to a late penalty from Mario Balotelli. Beşiktaş beat the Reds 1-0 in the return leg to take the game into extra time at the end of regulation time.
Beşiktaş maintained their unbeaten home record against English opposition following the Liverpool game.
The Black Eagles held Arsenal to a goalless draw in the Champions League play-off and also beat Tottenham 1-0 in the Europa League group stages.
