Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren admitted that he could not sleep after missing his penalty in the Europa League Round of 32 game against Beşiktaş.

The Reds were knocked out of the competition after Lovren missed his spot kick in the penalty shoot out.

“I was the saddest person in football, I wish I had scored the penalty,” Lovren was quoted as saying on the official Liverpool website.

“Of course, I didn’t sleep because of that. But football goes on, it’s life – you make mistakes. You don’t need to look back, I’m always looking forward.”

Lovren started against Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League and put in an impressive performance.

The Reds beat the Citizens 2-1 at Anfield to move just two points within fourth placed Manchester United.

Liverpool take on Burnley at Anfield next week in the Premier League.

Beşiktaş are currently second in the Süper Lig, three points behind league leaders Galatasaray.

The Black Eagles take on Belgium side Club Brugge next in the Europa League Last 16.
