Ozil and Sanchez will enter the final year of their contracts this summer. The Gunners may decide to sell the pair if they are unable to strike a new new deal to avoid the risk of losing the duo on a free transfer the following season.

Sanchez and Ozil both reportedly want a pay increase which would see them earn £290,000-a-week which would put them on the same salary as the highest paid Premier League player in the league Paul Pogba.

Charles Watts of Football.London meanwhile reported that Mourinho is also keen on a reunion with Ozil.

Ozil played under the stewardship of Mourinho during his time at Real Madrid.

The Germany international of Turkish origin provided 81 assists and scored 27 times during his time at Real.

Mourinho is a keen admirer of Ozil and did once describe him as being the best No 10 in the world.

Ozil has however, revealed that he is happy at Arsenal but also stated that situations can change rapidly in football.

“I have always said I’m very happy at Arsenal,” the 28-year-old told German newspaper Bild [via the Express]. “Everything fits here – the club, the fans and the city. Arsene Wenger was also one of the main reasons why I joined Arsenal.

“However, I also know that in football everything moves very quickly and a lot differently to what you had planned. Therefore, it would be wrong to say that my future is dependent on the coach.”

If Ozil and Sanchez or either one of the two players were to leave Arsenal for United it would be eerily similar to the Robin van Persie saga.

Van Persie refused to sign a new deal going into the last year of his Arsenal contract which forced the club into selling him.

United ended up signing Van Persie and he ended up winning the league title for a record 20th time in his first season at the club.

Many Arsenal fans still have not forgiven Van Persie for joining rivals United despite the Dutch striker now playing for Fenerbahce.
