Fernandes was quoted by O Jogo as saying: “Merih is fast, has great concentration, is competitive, agressive and a drive to win. In short he is a fantastic player. He is already a leader in the defence and will be worth millions.”

The move would be controversial if Galatasaray managed to pull it off as Demiral was a Fenerbahce academy player.

Demiral played for Fenerbahce before joining Alcanenense and then Sporting on a five-year deal.

The defender has nine international caps for Turkey at U19 level and was recently promoted to the U21 side.
